Eiffel Tower: here, there, and everywhere

The Eiffel Tower is so popular that besides the original tower in Paris, there are quite a few large and small copies in the United States. I will tell you about only two of them today.

The original tower was built in 1889 for the World's Fair and today it is one of the most visited monuments in the world. It's interesting that the Parisians at first disliked the structure, but today it's hard to imagine Paris without this "Iron Woman" that is 330 metres (1,083 ft) tall.

The Paris Eiffel Tower feels a bit intimidating when you look up.

In 1999 the Las Vegas copy was built and it is half the size of the original tower. It's hovering over the Paris Hotel and Casino where I once stayed (I skipped the casino part, but the hotel was nice). No, this tower doesn't feel very real, although the architects and builders did a great job.

At night the tower looks especially good.

The second American copy is located in the French Pavilion at the Disneyworld’s Epcot theme park (Orlando, Florida). It's approximately 1/10th the size of the original tower. It isn't possible to come up close to this structure because it simply plays the role of a background decoration. But overall it does set up Parisian atmosphere in the Pavilion.
